Our team at UCSF is seeking a postdoc to join the Impact Monitoring Platform for AI in Clinical Care (IMPACC) initiative. IMPACC, a collaborative effort between the UCSF Division of Clinical Informatics and Digital Transformation (DoC-IT) and UCSF Health, is dedicated to advancing the techniques and tools needed for robust and ongoing monitoring of efficacy, safety, and equity of AI technologies used by clinicians. IMPACC will build out the monitoring at UCSF Health while developing measures, methods, and infrastructure that can meet the growing need for AI monitoring at health systems across the nation.
The Division of Clinical Informatics and Digital Transformation (DoC-IT) within the Department of Medicine serves as the academic home for applied clinical informatics at UCSF. DoC-IT also serves as a coordinating entity with key internal and external digital stakeholders across all UCSF mission areas, schools, departments, and divisions. The Division is also the home of UCSF’s Clinical Informatics Fellowship, and partners with other UCSF entities to develop new education and training programs. Lastly, DoC-IT forges novel partnerships with UCSF health systems, other UCSF affiliates, and industry partners to ensure that our work has real-world impact.
Job Description
UCSF is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to join the IMPACC initiative and lead the development of novel techniques and tools for continuous monitoring and management of machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies used at UCSF Health. This includes developing sophisticated techniques for detecting shifts in AI/ML tools, determining the causes of these shifts, and creating processes to address them or mitigate associated risks. Publication and dissemination of the work is also expected.
You will be part of the IMPACC team, consisting of faculty and staff from DoC-IT, data scientists, data engineers, as well as machine learning and software engineers. You will work closely with the UCSF Health AI team that is responsible for maintaining AI/ML tools, including UCSF-developed and third-party risk assessment/prediction and generative AI tools.
You will be able to gain valuable experience analyzing AI/ML tools deployed in complex clinical and operational workflows, publish papers, and set standards across the healthcare industry.

Job Requirements
Required Qualifications
- Currently has or is in the process of obtaining a PhD in Computer Science or related area.
- First-authored publications at leading conferences such as NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, UAI, AISTAT, AAAI, AMIA
- Experience working with complex, large-scale, high-dimensionality data
- Experience in Python, SQL, or other related programming languages
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization
- Self-motivated and works independently and as part of a team. Able to learn effectively and meet deadlines
- Demonstrated broad problem-solving skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with healthcare data
- Experience with generative AI tools
- Prior research experience on monitoring of AI/ML models
- Demonstrated software engineer experiences such as prior work experience or contributions in open-source - repositories
