DoC-IT activities will center on two initial priorities:

  1. Creating a diverse, equitable, and inclusive academic home for applied clinical informatics researchers

  2. Serving as a coordinating entity with key internal and external stakeholders across all mission areas


To support priority 1, DoC-IT will:

  • Engage current faculty who would like a primary or secondary appointment in DoC-IT
  • Create structures that foster research, support career development, and advance DEI
  • Recruit top tier faculty, with a focus on three priority informatics areas:
    • advancing health equity and addressing social determinants of health
    • developing augmented intelligence solutions
    • achieving diagnostic excellence 

To support priority 2, DoC-IT will:

  • Advance clinical informatics education and training via:
    • Supporting the Clinical Informatics Fellowship that will be housed in DoC-IT
    • Partnering with other UCSF entities to develop new training programs
  • Advance research infrastructure via:
    • Establishing & advancing a shared vision for infrastructure and programs that are critical to clinical informatics research
    • Closely coordinating with ongoing efforts led by the CRIO and ACIO-R
  • Advance patient care via a new model for partnership with UCSF Health
  • Advance innovation via external partnerships
