New 4Ms Evaluation Metrics Resource Library Released
In response to a rapidly aging US population, healthcare systems across the country are seeking strategies to meet the complex needs of their older adult patients. Guided by the 4Ms Framework – What Matters, Mobility, Mentation, and Medication – thousands of US healthcare organizations are becoming Age Friendly Health Systems (AFHS). Health system leaders and researchers studying outcomes associated with 4Ms implementations need well-defined measures by which to evaluate 4Ms care.
With support from the John A. Hartford Foundation and the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI), the UCSF Division of Clinical Informatics and Digital Transformation (DoC-IT) is excited to launch the 4Ms Metrics Resource Library. The library is a publicly available, free-to-use, and user-friendly collection of over 200 metrics. It can be used to assess the outcomes associated with age-friendly care of older adults and the 4Ms Framework (Medication, Mentation, Mobility, and What Matters), as well as implementation efforts across a variety of settings.

"By putting a well-sourced collection of outcome metrics at their fingertips, this freely available resource library will help AFHS implementers, researchers, clinicians, and patients/families accelerate the evaluation of 4Ms care and the evidence base supporting this important framework for the care of older adults."

About the UCSF Division of Clinical Informatics and Digital Transformation (DoC-IT)
DoC-IT serves as the academic home for applied clinical informatics researchers within the UCSF Department of Medicine. We also serve as a coordinating entity with key internal and external digital stakeholders across all UCSF mission areas, schools, departments, and divisions. Clinical informatics is approached as a multidisciplinary field that involves the use of technology by a broad spectrum of health professionals, patients, and other stakeholders.
