We are seeking a faculty member at any rank to collaborate within UCSF’s vibrant environment, driving research alongside the Division of Clinical Informatics and Digital Transformation (DoC-IT), the School of Dentistry, and other clinical and informatics groups. This role also provides opportunities for clinical leadership in integrating health information technology—including AI—into dental practice, education, and research. About the Role
We are seeking a faculty member at any rank who is working in the field of dental informatics and could work in our vibrant environment at UCSF to:
- Advance PI-led research in dental informatics. There are substantial opportunities for diverse programs of research that take advantage of collaboration opportunities within the Division of Clinical Informatics and Digital Transformation (DoC-IT) and the School of Dentistry, as well as other clinical departments and informatics groups.
- Work with the UCSF Health Medical Informatics team to provide clinical leadership to the integration of health information technology, including artificial intelligence (AI), in dental practice, education, and research. This role involves supporting UCSF Health in optimizing the electronic health record, enhancing data analytics, and developing AI-driven solutions to improve diagnostics, treatment planning, and operational efficiency in Dentistry. The incumbent will bridge the gap between dental practice and information technology, ensuring that digital innovations support high-quality, evidence-based patient care. This aspect of the work comes with 20% salary support.

Applicants for the position must hold a DDS, DMS, or MD with additional training in dental informatics, health informatics, AI, or a relevant field. Alternatively, applicants must hold a PhD in Health Informatics, Artificial Intelligence, or a related discipline. We are looking for individuals with a minimum of 2 years of experience in dental informatics, AI development, or health IT.

Compensation
The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. See Table 5 here. The minimum base salary range for this position is $104,800-$320,100. This position includes membership in the health sciences compensation plan which provides for eligibility for additional compensation.

Description of Environment
The faculty member will be appointed within the newly established UCSF Division of Clinical Informatics and Digital Transformation (DoC-IT) within the Department of Medicine, under the leadership of founding division chief Julia Adler-Milstein, PhD. DoC-IT is the home of the Center for Clinical Informatics and Improvement Research (CLIIR; https://cliir.ucsf.edu/), which leads pioneering research on how to maximize the impact of digital health on health system performance. The Division also houses UCSF’s large Clinical Informatics Fellowship. Lastly, the Division has strong relationships with UCSF Health and our partner safety net hospital (Zuckerberg San Francisco General) and VA. The faculty member will also have an appointment in the School of Dentistry at UCSF. The incumbent will have a concurrent faculty appointment in the appropriate department and appropriate series and rank contingent on qualifications and/or interests; and will participate in limited clinical, teaching, and/or research activities.
